Mike Aviles’ four RBIs prevails Kansas City Royals over the Minnesota Twins, 10-3: MLB Update
Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Aviles was impressive throughout the game as he hit four RBIs single in the Royals' 10-3 victory against the Minnesota Twins at the Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City on May 1.
Aviles expressed his feelings as, “I was never worried. Maybe other people were worried. I wasn't. I know myself. I know I have confidence in myself. I know what I'm capable of doing at this level. I know I can help the team win. I don't think I ever was
asleep. I just started off slow.”
The two teams were unable to score even a single run in the first inning. The Royals' centre fielder, Jarrod Dyson, was injured in the first inning by sliding awkwardly towards the second base and got out. He tried to steal a double run, but experienced
a left ankle sprain in the end. Dyson went 1-for-1 before this accident and then Mitch Maier took his place in the next inning.
The Twins did not score a run until the fourth inning. On the other side, the Royals took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when Jeff Francoeur struck a solo home run. It was considered his sixth homer of the current season. The Royals accelerated well by
the collective efforts of Matt Treanor, Billy Butler and Maier.
The Royals led off with 2-0 in the fourth inning after the Butler’s single run towards the centre field position. In the fifth inning, the Twins' catcher, Drew Butera, singled off Luke Hochevar to open the scoring account and moved the scorecard to 2-1.
Butler also contributed in the fifth inning by taking an RBI double and posted a run on the two-out single of Wilson Betemit.
Justin Morneau hit a single home run in the sixth inning and helped in the Twins’ trail to move a little bit. The Royals added five runs in just two innings and extended the lead to 7-2. Alexi Casilla scored an RBI single in the seventh inning to move the
scoreboard to 7-3. In the eighth inning, Aviles extended the lead to 10-3 by hitting a three-run homer against the Twins reliever Dusty Hughes.
The Royals' Manager Ned Yost had a huge ovation for Aviles. He said, “Mike is feeling much better at the plate. He started the year off with a bit of a struggle. He's definitely zoned himself in, seeing the ball good and taking good swings at it.”
Hochevar was little bit shaky but restricted the rivals to a low score. He pitched 6 1/2 innings and allowed three runs on five hits including three earned runs with one strike-out. The Royals' closer Louis Coleman threw the ninth inning for his first save
and struck out two hitters.
