Mike Aviles shines as Kansas City Royals defeat Oakland Athletics, 4-3 – MLB Update
Kansas City Royals’ shortstop, Mike Aviles, had a remarkable day as he hit a tie-breaking RBI single in the Royals’ 4-3 victory against the Oakland Athletics, on May 9, at the Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City.
Aviles, while speaking on his game tactics, said, “I knew I just had to get the ball somewhere in the outfield. With Dyson's speed, we would definitely get the run. He just has that world-class speed. If I was on third base, we'd have to get it to the warning track.”
The pitchers did a great job with ball, as they restricted batters from both teams during the first five innings and the scorecard remained empty until the fifth inning. Royals then broke the silence of their fans, as they were thrilled when the home team added three runs in the sixth inning. Alcides Escobar and Matt Treanor both made two runs on contribution with Melky Cabrera, who scored on a sacrifice bunt of Billy Butler.
Jarrod Dyson was exceptional throughout the game, as he completed a single run in no time. He singled on the left-field position, where Ryan Sweeney was not able to stop the ball. Dyson reached to third base on the one-run shot off Jeff Francoeur, who went 1-for-4 with the bat.
Royals’ manager, Ned Yost, was content with the way Dyson proved his spot in the team. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I think he's the fastest guy in baseball. I can't think of a faster guy, one. And two, he's got incredible instincts. You can be fast. But without the baseball instincts, you're not going to be a good baserunner.”
Royals were on top with 3-0, during the sixth inning. The seventh inning also passed score-less like the first five innings and it was a question among Athletics’ fans, whether their team will be able to score a single run or not. Athletics posted three runs in the eighth inning to tie the game with 3-all and replied to their fans in immaculate fashion.
Cliff Pennington took triple runs on contribution with Andy LaRoche, who singled to end the three-run campaign. Sweeney swung his bat hard and hit a shot towards the centre-field position for one run.
Royals’ starter, Luke Hochevar, was economical right through the game as he pitched seven innings and permitted just one run on four hits, including three strike-outs. Aaron Crow was a little expensive as he gave away two runs on three hits, in just one inning. On the other side, Brandon McCarthy had a forgettable day, as he pitched 8 1/2 innings to complete the game and allowed four runs on seven hits, with four earned runs and three strike-outs.
