Mike Bibby, Rashard Lewis, Mike Miller -
Players expected to be in new teams next NBA season: Part 5
Mike Bibby
When Miami Heat landed Mike Bibby in the latter part of last season, they were hoping that veteran point guard will further strengthen the front court of the team and will be able solve their perimeter shooting riddle. However
that never happened and deep into the playoffs, Bibby had to be replaced by a younger and more reliable Mario Chalmers.
Mike Bibby is a free agent and most probably won’t receive an extension in his contract from the Heat. The major reason is that Miami Heat needs a point guard who can take the playmaking responsibilities form LeBron James. The
team already has three best offensive players of the league to take care of the front court.
It is for the same reason that there have been reports of Miami’s interest in Steve Nash and Grant Hill.
Rashard Lewis
There is no doubt that Washington Wizards power forward Rashard Lewis has experience, talent, versatility and above all great basketball skills. However, he is well past his prime and his performances do not justify him earning
the second highest salary in the next season, behind Los Angeles Lakers legendary shooting guard Kobe Bryant.
With the induction of the amnesty clause in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement, a thing which is most likely to happen, the Wizards will have a chance to do away with Rashard Lewis who is guaranteed approximately 46 million
dollars in the next three years. Where Lewis will land after that is anybody’s guess at the moment.
Mike Miller
With the arrival of shooting guard Mike Miller in the last preseason season, the Miami Heat had their reserve shooting guard position covered. Given that Dwyane Wade was not as young as he used to be and was also injury prone,
Miller with his incredible skill set provided just the perfect cover for Wade.
However, injuries and some poor performances limited the playing minutes of Mike Miller and the role for which he was brought into the team remained unfulfilled. The result was that Wade had to play major minutes in the regular
season and when Miller did come into the team late in the post season, he was unable to make a significant impact.
Over the next four years, Miller is slated to take home 24 million dollars and given that the Heat are looking to put their house in order, the will most certainly use the potential amnesty clause in the new CBA.
