Mike Bibby still hoping for a chance to play in the NBA this season – NBA News

The signing of Derek Fisher to the Dallas Mavericks has opened the door for many other veterans in the league, who are past their prime but can still provide depth, playoff experience and mentoring to the roster which still makes
them valuable in the league. And among those aspiring veterans wanting to return to the NBA this season, Mike Bibby seems to be at the top of the list.
Bibby played for the New York Knicks last season, but shot only 28.2 percent. The season before, he played for the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks but was unable to make his presence felt over there as well and
did not add any value to the team. the former Sacramento Kings franchise player is however, still hopeful that some team would come calling and the acquisition of Derek Fisher has given him a new hope of once again playing in the league.
“I’m getting ready for any call. It’s reassuring that Derek Fisher got that call. People are still getting calls right now. It can happen somewhere down the line, I’m not worried about that. I’m just keeping myself ready when that
call comes,” said Bibby during an interview with Hoopshype.
Bibby realizes that his performance as a backup point guard last year with the New York Knicks was not very good, and that may have made it difficult for him to find a job in the league this season. However, Bibby says that his
lack of performance last season was due to the lockout and the uncertain nature with which the season started.
“Last year everybody was telling me ‘It’s a lockout, lockout, lockout’, so I was trying to take it easy, saving my body a little bit. Then two days later I have to be here and go. It was tough to have only a few days to get in
shape into training camp,” added Bibby.
Even though players like Rasheed Wallace and Derek Fisher have made a return to the NBA this season, it is highly unlikely that the 14 year veteran Bibby will get a call from any team, as he does not have the pace to compete against
top point guards in today’s league. There was a time when he was one of the best point guards in the game, but that time seems to have gone now.
