Mike Brown conquers Men's 100m breast-stroke gold: Day one – 2011 Canada Cup
Mike Brown of UCSC conquered the title of Men's 100m breast-stroke on initial day of the 2011 Canada Cup on Friday, November 25 in Toronto, Ontario.
The session concluded after the finals of 100m breast-stroke, 400m Individual Medley (IM) and 50m butterfly in Men's and Women's category.
The 27-year-old Brown served notice of his talent by winning the breast-stroke title in a new record time of 1 minute and 02.27 seconds. His impeccable effort in the breast-stroke discipline placed him 0.49 seconds ahead of Warren Barnes of TSC, who reached
the podium for silver medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 02.76 seconds.
Barnes was followed by Andrew Poznikoff of SF, who was 0.44 seconds slower than him and ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 03.20 seconds for bronze medal.
Next was the Women's 400m Individual Medley (IM), where Karyn Jewell of CNG proved her dominance for gold medal by submitting a wonderful time of 4 minutes and 48.23 seconds.
The gold medallist remained 0.94 seconds faster from Lucy Spencer of GBR, who stepped on the podium for silver medal by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 49.17 seconds.
Spencer remained 0.26 seconds away from Annie Harrison of OAK, who clocked a nice time of 4 minutes and 49.43 seconds for bronze medal.
In the meantime, Tobias Oriwol of TSC served notice of his talent in the Men's equivalent event. The 26-year-old Oriwol outshined his competitors by producing a time of 4 minutes and 23.44 seconds for gold medal.
He was chased by GMAC's Andrew Ford, who remained nearly six seconds behind and concluded his swim in a time of 4 minutes and 29.99 seconds for silver medal. The silver medallist remained 1.47 seconds ahead of GBR's Mathew Allison, who completed his swim
in a time of 4 minutes and 31.46 seconds for bronze medal.
The final event of the session was Women's 50m butterfly, where Katherine Savard of CSQ snatched gold medal by posting an effort of 26.87 seconds. She was followed by Kendra Chernoff and Vanessa Charron, who ended second and third with timings of 27.46 and
27.65 seconds, respectively.
Furthermore, the meet ended after the completion of all listed events in Men's and Women's category.
