Mike Brown reveals how excited he was upon hearing about Dwight Howard’s trade – NBA Update
Los Angeles Lakers are one of those teams which like to be in the title mix on a consistent basis and their summer acquisitions have given them a very strong chance to do just that in the coming NBA season.
The Lakers made some of the biggest trades during the off season and the talks of another NBA Championship coming to Hollywood are already beginning.
The famed franchise started off by acquiring Steve Nash in a trade from the Phoenix Suns. That’s when the pundits had already started to predict a deep playoff run for the Lakers. But the arrival of Dwight Howard in a four team
trade from Orlando Magic has pretty much made them the best equipped team in the Western Conference and arguably even in the whole league.
The deal took everyone by surprise and Lakers head coach Mike Brown was no exception. Brown recently revealed the level of excitement he felt when he was told of the deal by club owner Jim Buss and GM Mitch Kupchak;
“I got a little excited. I tried to jump up and down, but my mind was telling me to do something that my body wouldn’t allow me to do. I almost pulled my hamstring sitting down. I don’t know if that’s ever happened to anybody,
but I was so excited that my leg tensed up. I almost tore my hamstring. So I got up slowly and gave him and Jim Buss a hug,” Brown said.
“That might be the first hug they’ve gotten from their coach, ever, when it comes to a trade happening.”
The acquisition of Howard means a great deal for the Lakers future and that of Brown, especially after the type of season Brown had in his first year in-charge.
It has been a tough one year for Brown who had to fill in the position left vacant by Phil Jackson. Making it to the second round of the playoffs may be a good thing for some teams but for the Lakers it was another season gone
to waste. In order to have a strong chance in the coming season, the Lakers have made some big time moves.
This only means a good omen for Brown who will now have the best roster in NBA at his disposal as seeks his first championship title.
