Mike Brown, the former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) featherweight champion, will take on the surging fellow countryman, Daniel Pineda in a three-round non-title bout in the preliminary card of ‘UFC 146: Junior Dos Santos vs. Alistair Overeem’ pay-per-view.
The announcement was made by Ultimate Fighting Championship’s (UFC’s) President Dana White in a press conference where he finalised the whole pay-per-view. UFC for the very first time in the promotion’s history will put forth a unique special edition.
UFC 146 will be televised on May 26, 2012 from MGM Grand Garden Arena situated in Las Vegas, Nevada and will have in its main card - five bouts - all of them in the heavyweight division.
The pay-per-view will be headlined by the five-round championship bout between Junior Dos Santos and Alistair Overeem. Mike, 36, is a mixed martial art veteran who has fought in various promotions. Brown has been in a total 33 bouts and came out victorious
in 25.
Mike is a ground player and relies on his submission ability to capture a swift, clean, and authoritative win. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, Mike has grabbed a whopping 13 of his total wins by making the opponent submit.
Brown has collected five of his victories by knockout and seven by decision. A keener look at Mike’s resume shows that he is basically an all-rounder with expertise in submission manoeuvres.
Pineda, also known as ‘The Pit’, on the other hand, is a young surging belligerent who recently started his UFC career on January 20, 2012 and made Pat Schilling submit via rear naked choke. The 26-year-old has been in a total 24 bouts and came out victorious
in 17.
The Houston lad Daniel is also a submission tactician and likes to nail the opponent by applying various tap out moves. The American Pit has collected 11 of his wins by submission and six by knockout. Daniel is heavily outclassed by Mike’s experience and
resilience.
Dana while announcing the bout explained that Daniel will fortify his position in the division if he nails Mike. White commented, “Pineda is developing as a serious contender as he will be looking for his third stoppage in the octagon in only 5 months and
riding an almost-two-year unbeaten streak.”
White while praising Mike dubbed him as the toughest opponent Pineda has ever faced. Dana remarked, “This will be the toughest test of his career, dealing with Brown's experience, power and submission prowess.”
Mike currently has two losses and one win in UFC and Pineda is on a continue seven-bout win streak, five wins in Legacy Fighting championship promotion, and will enter in his third UFC bout.
