Mike Brown wants the Los Angeles Lakers to move on from the Derek Fisher trade – NBA Update
Mike Brown had little to do with the Derek Fisher trade and he does not want to be the one to discuss it with his team, especially Kobe Bryant. He just wants to concentrate at the job at hand.
"I didn't speak to him at all about it," Brown said after the shoot around before the game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
On Thursday, the Los Angeles Lakers front office put an end to an over 12 years association with Fisher after making two separate trades with Cleveland Cavaliers and Houston Rockets to bring in Ramon Session, Christian Eyenga and
Jordan Hill while Fisher, Luke Walton and Jason Kapono were shown the exit door.
The departure of Fisher in particular, created shockwaves as he was not only seens as a team captain and a close friend of Bryant, but had also been a part of five NBA championships with the Lakers. He was looked upon as an essential
part of the Lakers legacy and the abrupt trade has raised some serious questions about whether the Lakers management has taken this step to cut Kobe’s influence and power in the locker room.
Kobe and Fisher have been friends for well over a decade and after the Lamar Odom trade fiasco, the shipping of Fisher, will certainly strain the relationship between the management and the Laker’s henchman. Bryant left the practice
way before the media was allowed after the practice session and was not available for comments.
Mitch Kupchak, the Lakers general manager, was apologetic to the fans while announcing the decision but stressed that the decision had purely been made keeping in view the best interests of the franchise going forward.
The induction of the 25 year old point guard to replace a 37 year old guy seems like a fair bet, but Fisher was much more than the numbers he put, and whether Ramon will be able to fill his shoes is anybody’s guess.
For now Ramon is cherishing the opportunity that fate has bestowed upon him. Being a part of the purple and gold is a dream come true for him;
"It's just a dream come true," Sessions said Friday after his first visit to the Lakers' locker room,
"I've been a basketball fan all my life," Sessions said. "I know a lot about the history of the Lakers, and it's just an honour, a privilege. ... There's no secrets. You come in here and look up at the banners, and you know history
has been done in here."
Session, who played second fiddle to rookie Kyrie Irving this season and managed 10.5 Points, 5.2 assists and 3.1 rebounds in 24.5 minutes per game, will be relieving Steve Blake for the time being, but Mike Brown sees Sessions
as a starter in the longer run;
"I think I would be very off-base if I said Steve was going to be my starter for the rest of the year," Brown said.
