Mike Cameron shines as Florida Marlins defeat Washington Nationals 7-5 - MLB Update
Florida Marlins’ centre-fielder, Mike Cameron had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit two homers, three RBIs and went 2-for-5 with an average of .195 in the Marlins’ 7-5 win against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park, Washington on July 27.
In the first inning, Greg Dobbs singled to right-field but Emilio Bonifacio grounded out to first base, Omar Infante struck-out swinging and Hanley Ramirez grounded out to pitcher. Similarly, the Nationals’ batters also struggled in scoring shots and got
out to various fields spots. Ryan Zimmerman drove a single-run shot to deep right-centre but Michael Morse got out to second base and Alex Cora struck-out swinging at the bottom of the first inning.
Marlins posted one run in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead when Mike Stanton homered (400 feet) towards right-centre. The pitchers limited the batters in the third inning. Marlins’ starter, Javier Vazquez allowed only one run on six hits and pitched
his seven innings with an ERA of 5.10. He permitted just one earned run with three walks and had four strike-outs on his 111 pitches.
At the top of the fourth inning, Dobbs and Logan Morrison both added two runs to extend their lead while the Nationals opened their scoring account with one run to reduce their lead 3-1 at the bottom of the fourth inning. Laynce Nix struck a solo homer (399
feet) towards right-field to lift the potential of the Nationals.
During the fifth inning, Marlins posted one run to increase their lead 4-1. Ramirez doubled off deep right-centre and Bonifacio scored a single run. Infante moved to third base at the end of fifth inning. Sixth and seventh innings passed without any contribution
of the batters. The Marlins took their lead 5-1 when Cameron hit his first home-run (382 feet) of the game towards right-field.
Marlins raised their lead by adding two consecutive runs at the top of the ninth inning while the Nationals were able to score four runs to cut their deficit 7-5, at the bottom of the ninth inning. Cameron struck another homer (390 feet) to left-centre and
Stanton posted a single run.
On the other hand, Ian Desmond, Cora, Zimmerman and Jerry Hairston Jr. each completed their individual run to end a four-run ninth inning. With this convincing victory, the Marlins got a 2-0 lead in the three-game series played at Nationals Park.
