Mike Cameron shines for the Florida Marlins, eyes positive outing against New York Mets – MLB News
Mike Cameron may not be solely responsible for the Sunday winner against the Philadelphia Phillies, but his role was ever more pivotal. Florida Marlins’ centre-fielder had a positive outlook on his role and his focus on the bigger picture to get the winner
for the team.
The strong hitter played the patient card in the 14th inning against relief pitcher, David Herndon. Much to the appreciation of the Miami crowd, the outfielder did his job and grabbed the credit for the play.
Herndon delivered his seventh walk to give away the match to Cameron on a walk off RBI. Though there were no hard feelings, the Phillies would have done well if they replaced their bullpen ace. Fortunately for the Marlins, things worked out well.
Cameron currently has a batting average of .197 and his performance during the day spelled out determination. The quick runner had five At-Bats during the game. He managed to hit in one but he struck-out on one as well. Surprisingly, he walked on three standings
and that has many baseball followers puzzled.
Regardless, of what the reasons are, Cameron is looking to do his best against the New York Mets when the Marlins meet them on Monday, September, 5.
"We've played well against some good pitchers, and it is kind of a confidence, momentum swing for us, so we can try to continue and not let down tomorrow against the Mets," Mike Cameron stated. "We had a few opportunities [earlier in the game], but the bottom
line is we found a way to win the ballgame. That's the bottom line."
If the Mets are looking to employ the Phillies’ strategy, the centre-fielder looks ready to take the challenge. He was mentally prepared against Philadelphia and he had a few words on his stance on Sunday when he faced Herndon in the bottom of the 14th.
"'Get a pitch that I could hit over the fence,'" Cameron reflected on his intent during his At-Bat. "He didn't throw me one, so I walked."
With a strong performance against the Phillies, Cameron may be a critical component of the Marlins’ line up against the Mets on Monday.
