Mike Carp shines as Seattle Mariners defeat Cleveland Indians 12-6 – MLB Update
Seattle Mariners’ first baseman, Mike Carp had a remarkable day with the bat as he struck five RBIs including one-run homer and went 2-for-4 with an average of .277 in the Mariners’ 12-6 win against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field, Cleveland on
September 19.
Indians got a tremendous start as they managed to hit three runs in the first inning for a commanding 3-0 lead. Asdrubal Cabrera struck a two-run homer (397 feet) to left-field and Jason Donald scored a single run. Carlos Santana also hit a solo homer (374
feet) towards left-field to give a solid foundation for the Indians.
During second inning, Mariners posted two runs to reduce their lead while Indians also added one run to remain on top with 4-2 lead. Alex Liddi hit a two-run homer (355 feet) towards left-field to keep the Mariners alive. The second run for Mariners was
taken by Wily Mo Pena on the grand slam of Liddi.
On the other hand, Donald posted another single run for Indians when Cabrera drove a double-run shot to left-field. Mariners’ batters stepped on the gas during third inning and smashed nine runs to take an 11-4 lead. Luis Rodriguez scored a single run when
Carp doubled to deep left-centre. The second run was taken by Carp when Kyle Seager singled off centre-field.
Seager and Pena both scored the third and fourth runs when Trayvon Robinson hit a single-run drive to centre-field. Liddi contributed a single run when Ichiro Suzuki drove a double-run shot to left-field. Carp hit a solo homer (420 feet) towards right-field
while Robinson, Suzuki and Rodriguez each singled to complete a nine-run campaign for Seattle.
Pena walked in the fourth inning but Robinson ground out and Seager fouled out without scoring any run. Mariners’ starter, Charlie Furbush pitched five innings and struck-out eight batters with an ERA of 5.22. He permitted 10 hits, six runs, one walk, two
home-runs and six earned runs on his 95 pitches.
Indians reduced their lead 11-6 at the bottom of fifth inning when Cabrera and Santana both added two collective runs on the single-run drive of Travis Hafner towards right-field. Mariners advanced to 12-6 in the sixth inning when Pena singled off centre-field
and Miguel Olivo scored the final run.
As a result, Mariners won the one and only game against the Indians at Cleveland.
