Mike Conley wants to prove he’s worthy of the contract extension

After signing a contract extension before the deadline on Monday 1 November, Michael Conley has heard a lot of criticisms, saying that he is not worthy of the extension that was given to
him.

Conley, who signed a five-year extension worth $40 million, has heard enough, and made a declaration that he is going to prove that Memphis Grizzlies made the right decision by making him
a part of their long-term plans.

The 23-year old guard, who was the fourth-overall pick in the 2007 NBA draft, has been a disappointment and was highly criticized because of his inconsistencies during his first three years
in the league, but the former Ohio State stand-out is off to the best start of his NBA career.

Conley has been on a roll in their first five games of the season as the 6ft 1in guard averaged 15.8 points, 9.2 assists, and 5.8 rebounds in their first five games, silencing all his critics
with his impressive display court-general skills.

"I forget the past very quickly. I'm all about what I'm doing right now," Conley said. "This year is different for me. I'm a different player. This year is going to be a big year for me and
the Memphis Grizzlies. Now, I know that they believe in me. They trust me. I believe I belong and they believe that too."

On Wednesday 3 November, Conley had another impressive night as he tallied 18 points, 13 assists, and seven rebounds, but the Grizzlies failed to execute down the stretch and absorbed a disappointing
115-109 loss against the Golden State Warriors, but Grizzlies head coach Lionel Hollins praised his starting point guard.

"He's done a lot to earn it," Hollins said when asked about Conley's extension. "He's gotten better every year I've been here. He's stronger, more confident and more aggressive. I don't think
it's a risk. It's a good thing. He's a solid, stable point guard."

Conley and the Memphis Grizzlies will try to snap their two-game losing skid on Friday 5 November when they travel to Phoenix to face the Suns at the US Airways Center.
