Mike De Kock outlines Dubai Carnival plans for Treasure Beach
After departing from Aidan O'Brien’s stable, the 2011 Irish Derby winner, Mike De Knock, is all set to do the goods under the care of Mike De Kock. The new handler on Wednesday mapped out future plans for the 5-year-old, confirming him for the Dubai Carnival.
Ahead of showing his magic on the Dubai World Cup night, the Ashley House Stud-bred will take part in a Medan race on ‘Super Saturday’, and the preparations have begun. Owned by Mrs F. Hay & D Smith & Mrs J. Magnier & M. Tabor, the bay horse was last seen
at Santa Anita in November, when ending up 10th in the field of a dozen.
In the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf, the Jamie Spencer-ridden settled in the midfield. He pumped up his speed a couple of furlongs before the wire, but was soon outpaced. After being well beaten inside the final furlong, the son of Galileo faded away.
Treasure Beach has not done anything special since his Secretariat Stakes success back in August 2011. But De Kock is hoping for plenty of goods. Just like the 5-year-old, Daddy Long Legs and Await The Dawn have been sent to De Kock for a Dubai campaign.
“Their ability is not in question," the South African trainer said. "It's all about getting them happy and ready for Dubai. Treasure Beach and Daddy Long Legs have both needed a bit of freshening up.”
"I don't expect those two will race until late February or early March and the plan will be for them to race on Super Saturday. I'm not sure how long they will stay with me, although I think connections are keen for Treasure Beach and Daddy Long Legs to
go on a bit of a world tour and race in Hong Kong and Singapore after Dubai."
Daddy Long Legs, who was successful in the UAE Derby in last March, has not done anything special lately. On his latest start at Leopardstown, the 4-year-old was only fourth on the chart.
The 2011 Hardwicke Stakes champion, Await The Dawn, is out of action for nearly 10 months now. On his previous venture at Meydan, the 6-year-old finished at bottom of the table.
