Mike Dolce talks about Chael Sonnen’ superb conditioning – UFC News
Former two-time middleweight challenger Chael Sonnen is in the perfect condition to take on light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, according to his nutritionist Mike Dolce. Mike tweeted about Sonnen’s condition, saying The American Gangster is ‘ripped’ and
in the perfect condition to fight. Sonnen is now 240 pounds, which means he will have enough time to rip even more for his fight against Jones that is scheduled for The Ultimate Fighter season 17.
Sonnen will be making his comeback to the light heavyweight division, after fighting at middleweight for more than two years. The American Gangster challenged middleweight titlist Anderson Silva twice during his stay at middleweight. Unfortunately, Sonnen
could not end Silva’s unbeaten streak and dominance as champion.
Now, The American Gangster is looking forward to end Jones’ era as champion, even though most analysts believe Sonnen hardly has the capabilities to do so. Overall, Sonnen is a wrestler while Jones has the advantage of his long arms and legs. Jones hardly
lets an opponent reach him, by keeping him far away with his long reach.
Considering the fact that Sonnen relies heavily on his wrestling skills while Jones take advantage of his long-reached attacks, the competition between the both would be quite interesting. Sonnen’s task would be to get close to Jones so that the latter is
unable to utilise his long reach for any good.
As of now, Sonnen has crossed the weight limit and he still has five months to shred himself to 205lbs. When it comes to fighting, the ripper you are the sturdier you get, which would keep Sonnen in a good position.
It should be noted here that Sonnen has already faced issues regarding taking performance enhancing drugs. There might be chances that The American Gangster has taken the same route once again in order to gain maximum weight. If it is so, Sonnen might be
in trouble once again.
For now, Chael Sonnen will be taking on Jones on The Ultimate Fighter season 17 next year. If lucky, Sonnen will score will his first title at the light heavyweight division by defeating one of the best mixed martial arts specialists of all time.
