Mike Fisher makes decider in high scoring showdown between Vancouver Canucks, Nashville Predators 6-5
Vancouver was sure of victory when the Canucks rallied in the second period by scoring four straight to secure the match, but as Nashville’s, Mike Fisher, made the decider during the final minutes, the Predators rebounded to take the contest, 6-5, on Thursday,
December 1, 2011, at the sold out Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, United States.
Nashville had the upper hand during the first 20 minutes as David Legwand and Mike Fisher scored two straight nearly three minutes apart, the first being n their initial power play opportunity of the night.
Their second was closely followed by Vancouver’s Cody Hodgson who answered back on a power play chance of the Canucks own when Shea Weber was booked for holding with a minor penalty, but did not stay behind for long as the veteran defenseman came off the
benches and potted his fifth of the season on another added man advantage with 10 seconds remaining.
"I think the guys did a really good job of letting me handle the first pucks and took away the rebounds," Nashville goalie, Anders Lindback said. "It's always nice to get a few (shots) right away. It's a confidence boost; (you) get warm and feel the pucks.
I felt good out there."
Vancouver answered equally as strong by scoring four straight in the second 20 minute round with Daniel Sedin adding the first on a power play, followed by Aaron Volpatti for his first 48 seconds later, Alex Burrows nearly midway through and Jannik Hansen
at the 10:29 mark to give the home team a comfortable 5-3 lead.
As good as it looked, Nashville did not lose hope at Jordin Tootoo followed nearly six minutes later and Colin Wilson potted the equaliser with less than three minutes to go to capitalise on all three power play chances throughout the contest.
"I didn't get much action and they scored a couple nice goals," Vancouver goalie, Roberto Luongo said. "We deserved a better fate. It was unfortunate they got that late goal on a pretty good play. … It was the first action in a while, and I'm just going
to look at going on from there."
