Mike Fisher sticks to Nashville Predators after signing two-year, $8.4 million extension -NHL Update
Keeping Mike Fisher on board for the upcoming 2012-2013 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season was one of the highest priority things on Nashville Predators’ to-do list for the offseason and fortunately, the deed was done on Wednesday, August 22, 2012,
as both stakeholders signed on to a two-year, $8.4 million contract extension.
Ryan Suter, one of Nashville Predators core players, left the team and joined Minnesota Wild on a major 13-year contract, dealing a major blow to the club from all angles. With reports of Mike Fisher also deciding to leave, Predators would have been left
with nothing other than Shea Weber having to play a one man show night after night.
Fisher is also one of Nashville’s assistant captains and is definitely set to be promoted as the second man to Shea Weber after the Ryan Suter’s departure.
"Obviously I love being here," said Fisher. "It has been a great year and a half for me. I love everything about the city. It is just a perfect situation."
Being the husband of country music singer, Carrie Underwood, Mike Fisher had to think about many things about his newly started family and choosing Nashville just seemed to be the best possible choice for him.
"Family and lifestyle are obviously most important," Fisher added.
The new deal will be giving him an annual salary of $4.2 million, which is a $200,000 boost from his previous five-year, $21 million deal which comes to an end after the 2012-2013 regular season winds up.
Drafted as the 44th overall during round-two of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft by Ottawa Senators, Mike Fisher is set to enter his third season with Nashville Predators after being dealt by long-time team, Ottawa, back during the 2010-2011 regular season.
In a total of 774 games played throughout his career, Mike Fisher boasts 411 points consisting of 196 goals and 215 assists along with an even better, 597 minutes in penalty time.
Last season was one of his better years in the industry after being traded by Ottawa as he potted 51 points (24 goals, 27 assists), making the 32-year-old centre player look better than ever before.
