Mike Friedman, another victim of the most common disorder in Cycling
Mike Friedman was operated for an iliac artery surgery and is hopeful that he will recover soon. It was discovered during the Amgen Tour of California as he was hardly able to pedal and explained the situation as, “I can remember having slow, incremental
deficiencies with my left leg versus my right until it was so bad I literally could not pedal correctly with it.”
Dr. Thomas has performed the surgery successfully, cyclist is looking good and is hopeful to come back on his bike from next month as he said, “September 1st I will be able to start riding, slowly at first using the trainer, but once I start doing
that I bet I will be outdoors quickly after.”
Stuart O Grady, Travis Meyer, Tony Gallopin and Rene Mandri have also been treated with the same problem previously and it is not something cycling world is not familiar with. Apparently, this injury is not uncommon in the sport of cycling, as many riders
suffer from this type of injury every year.
The 28-year-old will be training hard to regain his health and fitness as he is willing to come back in the international scene as quickly as he could. It would be hard to hit the form back both physically and mentally especially after the long gap in the
middle.
Friedman is hopeful for the coming season with Kelly Benefits / Optum Health as he said that they have been with him all the time and gave him their full support in the time that was really tough for him. He self assured that he will not let them down and
in return will give his 100 percent in the team.
The American mentioned that that during the time he was out of the sport he has learnt how to handle the difficult time and he will come back with a better cyclist both mentally and physically. He further added that he is thankful that both his legs are
in good condition now and he will be putting them on test pretty soon.
