Mike Gascoyne confident Lotus will be regular midfield runner in 2012 Formula 1 championship battle
Team Lotus technical officer Mike Gascoyne has said that he is hopeful his team will be better in 2012 Formula 1 season in terms of performance as compared to the 2011 F1 season.
Gascoyne also mentioned that they wanted to be racing in the midfield in the ongoing season, but they could not do that due to an unsupportive role of their T128 car.
The team’s technical officer informed the media that after the 2011 August break they will start working on the next year’s car.
Talking to reporters Gascoyne said, “But we have made a lot of good progress this year and we're two seconds clear of the other new teams, but we're still a second to a second and a half behind the cars ahead of us. It would be nice to be actually racing
against those guys by the end of the year and actually picking off the odd Williams and Toro Rosso and then start there and go on.”
He added, “Next year, when we're in the pack, is when we need it. What's it going to give you? That will make no difference to us this year, but next year, when we're in amongst it, it we'll need it.”
Apart from that, he discussed with the media that they have some major developments for the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix. However, Lotus technical officer further added that he is sure the new upgrades in the T128 car will help the drivers to overcome the gap
from strong teams in the remainder of the ongoing season.
Both of the drivers Heikki Kovalainen and Jarno Trulli are still unable to show their decent performance on the grid in the 2011 Formula 1 season. The team driver Trulli blamed the power steering issue of his car for his below par performance in the season
so far.
Team Lotus have fixed the power steering issue of the Trulli’s car ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix. However, the team driver stated that he is confident he can perform strongly in the remainder of the ongoing season with a new power steering.
Let’s see how both of the drivers manage their races in the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
