Mike Gascoyne of Team Lotus more focused on delivering results – Formula 1 news
Team Lotus’ chief technical engineer, Mike Gascoyne is not worried about having a long-term career with the team.
This reaction from Gascoyne came when Tony Fernandes announced his views on re-vamping the team’s growth targets for the 2012 after the 2011 Italian Grand Prix.
Tony Fernandes, who is Team Lotus’ owner, wants his teams to move ahead and progress by delivering improved results in the upcoming season of Formula 1. Therefore, Fernandes has come up with a revised set of targets that need to be achieved.
The 48-year-old Briton told Autosport, “I think Tony is quite right to sort of not put pressure on us, but to set targets, and I think my answer is that Tony couldn't put any more pressure than we put on ourselves.”
Therefore, Gascoyne is more focused at the moment on pulling off the team’s development agenda for next year.
Fernandes acknowledged Gascoyne’s efforts and the contribution he has made to the team’s growth so far.
He said, “I think he's done a fantastic job to get us to where we are, but next year is the year that everyone's head is on the block.”
Gascoyne is known as the highest paid engineer in Formula 1 history who is reported to have been earning around $8 million during his career with Toyota in 2005. He has been nicknamed ‘the Rottweiler’ due to his rigorous management style.
The team’s Malaysian chief engineer has chalked out a revised action plan for the 2012 season in order to achieve the targets set by Fernandes.
Gascoyne is all set for the challenges that lay ahead and is optimistic that he will push his team forward to the status of a midfield team by the end of next year. He believes that his team is much more stable and has better resources than last year therefore
chances of gaining an added advantage over their competitors, Toro Rosso and Williams are better.
He said, “We have got the Williams wind tunnel programme so we have doubled the time in the wind tunnel than we had this time last year. So actually there are real reasons why physically we will be better.”
Let’s see whether the new targets will be able to give Team Lotus a competitive edge over its potential rivals or not.
