Mike Hallett whitewashes Tony Knowles, 4-0 at Q School – Snooker News
English professional snooker player, Mike Hallett, has whitewashed Tony Knowles by a frame score of 4-0, in the best-of-seven frames Round 1 match at Q School. This event is being held at the World Snooker Academy, Sheffield.
The 55-year-old, Knowles, who once reached Number Two in the world rankings during the 1980’s, tried his best but was unable to deliver as he lost his hopes in the opening event.
Former World Number Six, Hallett, who won the Hong Kong Open back in 1989, is again bidding to return to the main tour of snooker, as he rolled back the years with an impressive win in what was the battle of the legends.
Mike Hallett, who is a regular snooker commentator for European news channels, did not have to play his best snooker, as he was able to beat Knowles with a top break of 45.
The overall score-line in the one-sided affair was 38-70 (Knowles 30), 33-67 (Hallett 45), 11-76 (Hallett 32) and 57-64 (Hallett 32).
Knowles did roll in thirty points in the first frame before he lost his nerves and Hallett took the frame after showcasing his flawless safety skills.
Hallett said, “It's going to be mega difficult to get back on the tour but it is only five victories. But I've been working hard am happy with my game and really looking forward to it. I played OK today and quite well in the first three frames. The fourth
went to a respotted black and Tony went in off the black.”
He also expressed his love for the game and added, “I just love the game and it has been in my blood since the age of 14. I enjoy the commentary but I was a professional for 20 years and there's nothing like getting back in there, in the heat of the battle,
so I just want to have another crack at it.”
A delighted Hallett also admired his fellow countryman, Knowles, for showing up at the event. While speaking to the media, Hallett said that Knowles still had the spark for the game, but he played a bit loose.
