Mike Jones promises spectacular win
Prospective welterweight Mike Jones guarantees that he will stop opponent Jesus Soto Karass when they meet at the Cowboys stadium in Arlington, Texas, Saturday 13 November.
In a final presser, Jones, responding to comments made earlier by Karass, said, "I really want to elaborate on something Soto Karass said. He said that Mike Jones won't stop him from being a world champion.
"But on Saturday night, Mike Jones is going to stop him that night. No disrespect to Soto Karass, but I'm a great fighter, and I'm going to shine on Saturday night. I'm ready to go."
Jones with bring a formidable record of 22-0 with him, with 18 knockouts. Karass (24-4, 16 KOs) has shown he is a tough opponent and represents another level of competition for Jones. While Jones will be the heavy favourite, Karass won’t make it easy for
him.
Jones is fresh off of a Showtime televised, fifth-round knockout of Irving Garcia in which he dazzled the audience in Atlantic City. Before the bout, he had scored a fifth-round knockout of Hector Munoz on the undercard of Sergio Martinez – Kelly Pavlik.
In all, Jones has tabulated two straight knockouts and six stoppages in his last eight fights, testifying to his rapid advancement through the welterweight division.
"For me to be the No. 2 fight on a card like this, that shows that they have a lot of respect for my abilities," Jones said. "I can't even put it into words how I feel about it."
Jones, a Philadelphia native, is represented by Top Rank. CEO Bob Arum has big plans for Jones, who is likely worthy of a welterweight title fight should he beat Karass.
Many have pointed out he would be a good fit against HBO superstar Andre Berto. Jones is currently rated No.2 welterweight by the WBA, No.3 by the WBO, and No.4 by the WBC.
