Mike Krzyzewski calls the absence of Derrick Rose a ‘big loss’ for the London Olympics – NBA Update
With the London Olympics just around the corner, August 2012 to be precise, many teams will be worried about their line ups for their prestigious games.
On Monday night while speaking to the media, USA Basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski shared some details about Team USA and expressed his bitter disappointment at the loss of star point guard Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls;
"I love Derrick," Krzyzewski said at the presser,”He helped us win a world championship in Istanbul (in 2010). He's our starting point guard. I thought he grew a lot from that experience. He's somebody in the future I know will
be a point guard for our Olympic team."
"He's a team player. No one pushes the ball down the court any quicker than he does. He can be an outstanding defensive player. Our hearts go out to him. It was a big loss for our team. Hopefully the surgery he had just a day or
so ago will be proven to be very successful."
Rose was part of the 20 players, who were selected to attend camp scheduled in July, but since that time, the hectic schedule of the shortened NBA season has caused injuries to many star players.
Derrick Rose tore an ACL in his left knee in Game 1 of the Playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers, Dwight Howard went through surgery deep in the regular season in order to recover from his back problems; Chauncey Billups went
down courtesy of an Achilles tendon injury while big man LaMarcus Aldridge of Portland Trail Blazers is out after having surgery on his hip.
There is still no confirmation as to how many players will be attending the training camp, which is set to start on July 6th. With several of the players busy with their respective franchises in the ongoing NBA playoffs,
US Olympics Committee has given an extension till July 8 for the final team to be selected.
They have also allowed the addition of two James Harden and yet to be drafted big Anthony Davis, who played a major role in the NCAA championship win of the Kentucky Wildcats.
