Im a huge red sox fan but anyone would agree that game 1 of the red sox yankees game at fenway was called wrong, the umpire was terrible and mike lowell was right for yelling at the umpire in the 9th inning

  1. Im a Yankee fan, yeah, but I don't see how he was right for yelling, and the game was umped as any other, some wrong calls, but mostly right.  If they were called in your favor, you wouldn't even mention it.  Thats why an ump does it, not a computer.  Its a game, and thats how its played.

  2. To everyone that said he didn't have the right to complain: the pitch was well off the plate, he doesn't crowd the plate because he's Mike Lowell and cant hit pitches very close to his body so he stays away, Rivera threw a cutter not a curveball so it really couldn't have broken more that 4-6 inches anyways and the NESN strike zone didn't even show it in the image it was so far off.  There were horrible calls for both sides but when a hitter is grinding out a great at bat like Lowell was you don't give the pitcher a huge break, you give the hitter the benefit of the doubt.

  3. I'm a Yankee fan, and Mike Lowell may or may not have been right (I didn't see a definitive replay), but I agree with the person who said if it happened to the Yanks, no Sox fan would even bring it up. That's why I like to see the overhead angle on ALL close pitches! When will these networks get this?!

  4. No, he was not right for yelling at the umpire.  Even if it WASN'T the right call, no respectable ball player should ever act like a 2 year old throwing a tantrum when a call doesn't go his way.

How about those two terrible calls at 2nd base that went in favor of Boston?  Why aren't any Boston fans outraged about those?

That's just how baseball goes.  No ump is ever going to get EVERY call right.  It all evens out eventually.

It's really sad that Boston thinks that bad umps are why they lost the game.  Give some credit to Joba - even Beckett had the class to recognize why he was the losing pitcher last night:

“I was the second-best pitcher today,” Beckett said, “and ultimately that gets you a loss most of the time.”

  5. The call was wrong. On the Yankees broadcast, David Cone even said so.

Lowell was right in arguing, it was a horrible call.

  6. Jumping out of the way to make a ball look more inside than it is:pathetic. Attacking like a 6yr old jumping up and down and throwing your helmet: pathetic.

Maybe Jeter should have attacked that way when he tagged out Pedroia while stealing: No, he's got class.

  7. In the beginning of the game last night the broadcasters made it very clear that the HP umpire was not afraid to call stikes. so I say the broadcasters were right on that one. GO YANKEES!!

  8. im a yanks fan as well and i saw that pitch on the replay on sportscenter, and it looked like lowell was hugging the plate to begin with. The slider/curver whatever offspeed it was deff broke late across the plate so i dont think lowell had any right to argue the call i think the ump got that one right. I think he was just frustrated with the prior innings. Lowells a solid player and he prob hurt his team by pitching a fit. Just my take though.

  9. Lowell stands very tight towards the plate and when the ball came he shrugged towards the ball. When you look at his body postionaing yes its a ball but its not the position of the player that counts its the plate and the ball did hit the inner part of the plate. He knew moes cutter does that i dnt know why he didnt try to foul it off to force another pitch.
