Mike Maddux interviewed by the Chicago Cubs – MLB News
Mike Maddux was interviewed by the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday, November 9 as the team consider him to be the most suitable name for the managerial responsibilities. If hired, Maddux will be the successor of Mike Quade who was dismissed by the Cubs last week.
The interview remained a unique situation for him. It is interesting to note here that Maddux had withdrawn his name from any consideration for the Boston Red Sox, citing the long distance between Texas and Boston the biggest reason that factored into making
the decision.
Although Chicago has the same distance from Texas as does Boston, Maddux stated that he liked to be in Chicago as it was a nice place. Most probably, his preference of the Chicago Cubs is the new management that has taken over the team, providing a distinct
opportunity for the team to revive itself.
His Wednesday’s interview that was conducted by Theo Epstein, president of baseball operations for the Chicago Cubs, was a fairly unique opportunity for him.
"I think this was a unique situation, the first time we ever talked about anything like this," Mike Maddux said Wednesday. "[Greg] gave me a little background of what's going on. It was very, very helpful. Chicago's a neat place.”
Having held the responsibility of being the Texas Rangers’ pitching coach, the team that qualified for the best-of-seven World Series this year, Maddux combines experience and expertise to guide any team to the winning stand.
In his tenure as the pitching coach, the Texas Rangers touched new heights with great performances in strike-outs, walks and hits whereby the team maintained the impressive averages in all aspects of the game.
“It was very, very helpful.I'm very happy with what I do, I enjoy what I do," Maddux said.
Maddux interview, among others included, Jed Hoyer the new general manager of the Chicago Cubs. The team will now interview Indians’ bench coach Sandy Alomar Jr. on Friday. Alomar is a six-time All-Star. The Cubs have to determine who at best, suits to lead
the Chicago Cubs for the 2012 season.
