Mike McCoy to pursue future with Miami Dolphins not Oakland Raiders – NFL News Update
Denver Broncos’ offensive coordinator, Mike McCoy, has cancelled his interview scheduled for Wednesday with the Oakland Raiders and instead flew to New York for his second interview with the Miami Dolphins’ owner, Stephen Ross.
The decision came as a surprise that fuels up the speculation that McCoy is fully confident that he would land up with the Dolphins and hence took the decision to fly and meet Ross instead.
According to reports, McCoy informed Raiders’ general manager, Reggie McKenzie, that he was no longer interested in pursuing his career as the head coach for their team.
The move shows that McCoy is quite confident of his future with the Dolphins and hence decided to cancel his interview with him.
Oakland Raiders had launched a search for a head coach after coach Hue Jackson was fired by McKenzie on the first day he took over as the new team general manager.
Just recently, the Raiders interviewed defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, Dennis Allen, for the head coach vacancy.
The Raiders had already interviewed the former Dolphins interim head coach, Todd Bowles, and have a close eye on four Green Bay Packers’ coaches, Joe Philbin, Winston Moss, Dom Capers and Tom Clements for their head coach slot.
McKenzie also wanted to interview McCoy in this regard but he chose to interview with the Dolphins instead.
On the other hand, the Dolphins had finalised three names for their head coach search of which McCoy was one.
Miami formerly were intent on hiring Jeff Fisher but decided to work with the St. Louis Rams instead so the Dolphins had to begin a new search.
Two other persons who made it as finalists for the head coaching slot were offensive coordinator of Green Bay Packers', Joe Philbin and Todd Bowles.
On Wednesday, the Dolphins interviewed Philbin and Todd Bowles for the second time. After McCoy interviews Ross, it is expected that the Dolphins will take a final decision to name their coach.
McCoy, the current offensive coordinator and quarterback coach of the Broncos had helped his team reach the playoffs despite the fact that the Broncos' offense ranked at the 23rd number in National Football League (NFL).
However, the achievement of reaching the playoffs has him in high demand.
Bowles on the other hand, who led his team, 2-1, in the last three games, is also a strong contender for the coaching vacancy with the Raiders, who are having problems with their own defence which was the main reason for them being eliminated from the playoff
race.
Oakland likely may choose to have Bowles, who is a respected defence specialist and bears a defensive mind.
So, McCoy may finally end up with the Dolphins although it is too premature to say such a thing.
