Mike Miller surprised by rumours over his retirement – NBA News
Miami Heat’s reserve shooting guard Mike Miller is quite surprised over the rumours that he will be retiring after this season. Astonished at the reports circulating in the media, Miller has made it clear that
that thought of retirement has never crossed his mind.
ESPN recently reported Miller as saying that the NBA Finals could be his last two weeks in the league and when the Sun Sentinel contacted him in this regard, Miller texted back with “What!!!”.
Later he called the Sentinel to clear the air;
“I'm not retiring. I don't know what I'm doing. What I said is I guess I've got to figure out what is best for me.”
Miller has been battling with injuries throughout the season. He has reportedly been taking injections before games as well as during half time for back pains. When asked about it, the shooting guard said that
he does not take the injections that regularly.
Miller is scheduled to earn $18.8 million over the next three seasons. In the event that he retires, Miami will have some extra space in their salary cap and an amnesty clause that they have not used till now.
They could amnesty a player such as Udonis Haslem and in the financial space that is created by letting go of Haslem and Miller, could be much more flexible in the trade or free agent market. This would help them improve their roster and make the franchise
stronger going into the future.
Miller also took offense to the fact that this issue has been brought up just as he and the Miami Heat are preparing to face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.

As far as he is concerned, this issue along with any other issue that does not concern the NBA Finals or the Oklahoma City Thunder is off limits till the Finals are not finished. He is only thinking about the
NBA Finals at the moment.
“This is not the time for that. And it's not something that I even know what's going to happen,” added Miller, who is earning above $ 5 million per season.
