Mike Mularkey says Chad Henne starter in Jacksonville Jaguars vs Tennessee Titans – NFL News
Irrespective of a question whether or when Blaine Gabbert will be in full fitness again, the Jacksonville Jaguars are projecting the new offence leader Chad Henne for the game against Tennessee Titans at least.
This was announced by coach Mike Mularkey on Monday and apparently the decision has been based on Chad’s performance in the last game, which almost took the Jags to a win in the 37-43 loss to the Houston Texans.
Mike said:
"We're trying to find a way to produce and win. We're just trying to find ways to see if we can be more productive that's all. It's no different."
The coach added:
"He's been a starter in the league. He's had some success at that position. He was brought in here in case something happened to Blaine, to step in there and produce, which he did. He prepares like he's a starter every week.”
Henne, who replaced injured Gabbert since first quarter of the game against the Texans, threw for 354 yards and his best four touchdowns, a convincing performance for the coach to entrust the player with the starting job straightaway.
Asked about Blaine’s injury, the coach said that was still in the air and if Henne performed well in the Titans game the injury might be in the air for a longer period unless Blaine would be willing to accept a backup role.
The Jags are desperate to find second win of the season and on the course of the search they have lost seven consecutive games. Although the number is not pleasing at all, the good news for the Jags is that owner Shahid Khan has refused to budge or call
it a total failure.
Mularkey can hope to honour words of his employer and manage a few victories in rest of the season. This might give him and general manager Gene Smith a chance to win their places in the longer run with the Jags. Otherwise, pressure on Smith who has been
in charge of all decisions in last couple of years has been mounting steeply and his survival in the post-season cleansing will be difficult indeed.
