Mike Napoli revealed as he has avascular necrosis in both hips – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli has revealed in the media that he is suffering with growing pain as he as avascular necrosis in his both hips.
"Usually, but not always, the hips are first affected, then other joints may follow, It can strike any bone or joint in the body, the bone tissue/joints actually die, just as heart muscle tissue dies from a heart attack," according to information on the
site.
Napoli said in a conference call Tuesday, adding it was a "shock" to him to learn of the AVN, “Obviously, it was a pretty tough offseason, but we think we've got it figured out. We saw a bunch of doctors, got a bunch of opinions and went from there. I got
on medication. There's no reason I shouldn't be healthy and ready to go for Opening Day."
The experienced catcher Napoli has recently signed with the Red Sox pending a physical. This news certainly raised some questions about Napoli is availability in the next Major League season.
After failing to negotiate with the Texas Rangers on contract extension, Napoli decided to play for the Red Sox. He is coming in the Red Sox with a much improved hitting average of .227 along with 24 home runs, 56 RBIs and .343 OBP.
He also carries career hitting average of .259 along with 146 home runs, 380 RBIs and .356 OBP which also makes him an offensive player in the league.
Along with Napoli, the Boston Red Sox has couple of good catchers as well. David Ross and Jarrod Saltalamacchia are two good catchers Red Sox currently have but Napoli’s presence in the team will make a clear difference in their next season’s results.
Ross showed good performance in the last season and finished with good numbers of .256 hitting average along with nine home runs, 23 RBIs and .321 OBP. He also carries a good career .238 hitting average along with 84 home runs, 248 RBIs and .324 OBP.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia also played well in the last Major League event and went with good numbers of .222 along with 25 home runs, 59 RBIs and .288 OBP.
