Mike Pelfrey signs with Minnesota Twins – MLB Update
Starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey has signed a one year deal with Minnesota Twins and hoping for a better beginning in the next Major League Baseball season.
Pelfrey last played for the New York Mets in the last MLB season. Not only in 2012 Major League outing but Pelfrey was playing in the Mets franchise since 2006.
Last month, the Mets put him in non-tendered contracts while many believed that New York side will sign him again with slight low price. However, Pelfrey and his agent did not agree with Mets’ offer and decided to sign with the Twins.
He earned $5.7 million last year with the New York Mets but during the season, he underwent Tommy John Surgery which certainly cost him big time as he was non-tendered by the Mets in 2012 offseason.
Now with the Twins, Pelfrey will earn $4 million in base salary and another $1.5 million in bonuses. Tough these are still rough details of his contract but a reliable news network source is quite sure about these details.
"I'm on track for Jan. 15. So everything is going well," Pelfrey said. "Tim Hudson came back in seven months (from Tommy John surgery). Joba Chamberlain last year came back in eight before he broke his ankle. And I'll be about eight and a half or so. I'll
definitely be ready when spring training rolls around."
Though all the paper work has been done but deal is still pending a physical and in few days will be announced officially in the media. The former Mets start had to face tough times particularly in the last season.
His ligament-replacement surgery was the biggest setback in his career. He was going smooth and performing with real thrust last season. Before his potential surgery, he was playing with an ERA of 2.29 along with 13 strikeouts and 1.42 WHIP.
Now since he has been recovering from his late Tommy John surgery, he is feeling quite confident and wants to show his real offensive game in the coming Major League Baseball season.
Pelfrey’s overall career ERA of 4.36 along with 50-54 win-loss, 506 strikeouts and 1.46 WHIP also makes him a good role player in the league which now equally is good for the Minnesota Twins.
