Mike Perez eyes title shot after winning first ever Prize-Fighter International title: Boxing news
‘The Rebel’ Mike Perez has extended his unbeaten record to 16 fights, as he outclassed the American, Tye Fields, with a first round stoppage to be crowned as the first ever Prize-Fighter International Champion last Saturday at the Alexandra Palace,
London.
It was a highly impressive performance from Perez, as he just took under eleven minutes to claim the title. He knocked down Kerston Manswell with a unanimous decision in the quarter-final by scores of 30-25, 30-25 and 30-25. Then he registered a 54
seconds knock-out win over Gregory Tony in the semi-finals and in his final match he hardly took 42 seconds to clinch the title with another first round stoppage.
Perez, who boxes out of the Watergrasshill BC on Leeside under Patrick Thomas, also earned himself prize-money of 32,000 pounds in a one-night tourney.
For Tye Fields in the meanwhile the final was a nightmare. Though he did well in the quarter-final and in the semi-final where he shrugged off the likes of Michael Sprott and Konstantin Airich respectively, his opponent had too much for him in the
final.
The Unbeaten Cork-based Cuban heavyweight, Perez, now thinks he will get a world title shot against the likes of David Haye or Wladimir Klitschko.
“I want to face one of the big names – the Klitschko’s, David Haye – I am good enough to win titles and whoever wants to fight me for their titles, I’m want to fight them,” said Perez. “I got better as the fights went on and I wanted to prove to those
people who have helped me like my trainer and my family that they were right to back me.”
Let’s see if the undefeated heavyweight champion, Mike Perez, gets a real chance to prove himself in front of the world.
Prize-fighter International title will again return on June 7, as the WBO Welterweight 2 takes over York Hall, Bethnal Green. However the full announcement on the final line-up is still to be made.
