Mike Pyle grabs impressive knockout win over heavily experienced Josh Neer – UFC News
Mike Pyle, the former World Extreme Cagefighting welterweight champion, did swift work of his Friday night opponent, Josh Neer, the former Shark Fights interim welterweight champion, and knocked him out with a huge right hand in the very first round of the
three-round bout held on June 8, 2012.
The duo met on the main card of the ‘UFC on FX3: Demetrious Johnson vs. Ian McCall’ pay-per-view which was headlined by the UFC flyweight semi-final bout between Johnson and McCall.
The octagon for the pay-per-view was set up at BankAtlantic Center situated in Sunrise, Florida, United States and the night was co-headlined by the non-title three-round bout between Erick Silva and Charlie Brenneman.
Mike, 36, started the bout in an authoritative way and did not let Josh overcome him except in one particular scenario which as he said afterwards was - an act to buy some time.
Pyle and Josh, from the very first second, leashed a wave of kicks and jabs and tried their level best to hurt each other. Things were going good for Pyle when a thunderous kick out of nowhere generated by Neer connected Mike’s liver.
It was this moment when in sheer pain Pyle moved back and leaned with the octagon. After the bout, Mike explained that he did so deliberately in order to know what Josh is ready to throw at him.
Pyle stated, “Not to sound macho, but I just wanted to see what he was going to give me. He hit me in the liver, and that hurt pretty d**n good. At one point, he did sting me – but I was never hurt.”
As soon as Mike came back in the centre of the ring the duo again started clobbering each other with powerful knees. Pyle and Josh connected powerful strikes and did much damage to each other but it was the submission specialist Mike who decided to go for
a knockout win.
With almost four seconds left in the end of the first round, Mike connected a huge right hand that he has been practicing for the last few weeks. The force and the damage it did can be judged from the fact that Neer fell on the octagon floor like a dead
log with face facing the octagon and senses all blanked out.
The referee officially announced Mike as the winner of the bout who afterwards shared his game plan and stated, “The plan was not to take that abuse. But it was going as planned, and I wanted to show the right hand. He got me with a couple good ones, and
I had enough. I feel better than I ever have.”
With this win Mike has collected his 23 victory whereas Josh has received his 11th career loss and second ever by knockout.
