Mike Quade dismissed as the Chicago Cubs look for new manager – MLB News
The Chicago Cubs’ president of baseball operations relieved the manager Mike Quade of his responsibilities on Wednesday, November 2 in a move that is seen the first step towards putting the team on an entirely new direction.
His dismissal came a day after the Cubs’ president, new general manager Jed Hoyer and Mike Quade had a long meeting that reportedly continued for over six hours. While decision was expected to come within a week, Theo Epstein called on Quade to inform him
of the dismissal.
On the other hand, the Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg who has had managerial responsibilities in the Minor Leagues for five seasons was also called to inform that he was not among the list of candidates the Cubs was looking for as a new manager for the team.
However, Mike Quade was paid tribute by Theo Epstein for having served the team to the best of his abilities. Theo Epstein, known for making tough decisions, also lauded Quade for his passion, commitment, knowledge of the game and the integrity that he had.
Epstein said, “Quade lived up to his reputation as an outstanding baseball guy and tireless worker.” He continued and stated that the passion, knowledge of the game that Quade had with commitment and integrity stood out immediately.
"We are looking for someone with whom and around whom we can build a foundation for sustained success," Epstein said in a statement. "The next manager must have leadership and communication skills; he must place an emphasis on preparation and accountability.”
What became difficult for Quade was to manage the team during the season as it seemed that he had gradually been losing his support from his team. This is especially the case with the argument that he had with pitcher Ryan Dempster and Carlos Zambrano in
the same period.
With the dismissal of Quade, it will be interesting to see who the Cubs hire as their new manager. It will be imperative for the team to find the right candidate to help build the team around and try for a successful 2012 season.
