Mike Redmond played under seasoned Major League managers - MLB Update
Miami Marlins’ manager, Mike Redmond, is fortunate enough to have played under highly competent Major League skippers.
That experience will help him tremendously in leading the Marlins and achieving their objectives for the upcoming seasons.
Redmond was appointed as manager of the Marlins, immediately after the conclusion of the 2012 season.
It is his first experience as skipper of a Major League team, which makes some critics doubt his credentials.
Experts believe that Redmond has yet to go a long way before becoming reliable as a leader of the whole team.
However, Redmond is of the view that he has observed a number of managers during his expedition as a Major League player, which has given him a sufficient amount of confidence to do this job comfortably.
He has been near to the likes of Jim Leyland, Jack McKeon while being on the rosters of a number of teams.
Commenting on his being a backup catcher, Redmond has stated that he always used the position to understand the game and see how the managers are trying to use the resources at their disposal appropriately.
"I love the game, and I love to study the game," he said. "I always took so much pride in being a backup catcher. I wanted to be the best backup catcher. I knew if I wasn't going to be a starter, I wanted to be the best backup catcher in the league. And
I knew the only way I was going to be able to do that was if I paid attention and watched and learned. If I did that, everything was going to be fine."
Redmond is mindful of the fact that the challenge in front of him is monumental.
Taking the team like the Marlins to heights of success in the next couple of years will not be easy, especially considering the fact that the quality of their players is unsatisfactory.
The Marlins’ roster does not consist of star players, unlike the last season when they had the likes of Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez.
That means Redmond will be doing something out of the ordinary to make sure the team manages a respectable win-loss during the upcoming season.
