Mike Ribeiro charged with public intoxication
Dallas Stars centre Mike Ribeiro was arrested in Plano, Texas on Sunday after being charged with public intoxication.
The incident occurred at a Sushi Bar Restaurant deriving from an altercation between several patrons including Ribeiro and 39-year-old Tammy Williams who was listed in the police report
as Ribeiro’s spouse. Two other people involved in the altercation were arrested.
Ribeiro was back on the ice on Monday for practice after being released around dawn on Monday.
"It's my personal life, and I'd like to keep it like that," Ribeiro said after participating in Monday's practice. "It's not a good situation, and I want to keep it personal right now
and concentrate on hockey."
"I wish there were cameras there and you could have seen what happened," Ribeiro said. "I guess a lot of people would have a different opinion about what happened. I've cleared my mind
of what happened, and I just want to put that behind today and look forward to tomorrow."
Stars general manager Joe Nieuwendyk also issued a statement on Monday saying that they would be internally investigating the incident.
"It's a matter that we as an organization take very seriously, especially when the police are involved," Nieuwendyk said. "We'll gather all the information and handle everything internally."
Head coach Marc Crawford also made a brief statement saying that he had talked to Ribeiro about the situation.
"We talked to Mike, and we just keep moving forward," Crawford said. "That's the best way to approach things. There's not much more that we can say about that."
Ribeiro was acquired by the Stars at the start of the 2006-07 season via a trade with the Montreal Canadiens. The 30-year-old forward, who was born in Montreal, Quebec, was originally
drafted by the Canadiens with the 45th overall pick in the second round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft.
