Mike Scioscia reflects on game loss and playoff scramble in post-game press address
The Los Angeles Angels were unable to pick up a necessary win in their latest contest against the Texas Rangers as they crashed out of the play-off race with a 3-4 loss to the Texas Rangers at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Monday, September 26. The club had
tried their best to get a winning result but the team was unable to do much against the Rangers.
Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia was pleased to see his team fight back and it was understandable that a game loss meant an end to a tough season. With Mark Trumbo coming in and a whole other batch of youngsters setting foot into the first team roster, things
always looked volatile but the side played well over their 160 games.
With the absence of Scott Kazmir from the rotation, the club was able to chase the Rangers till the last two weeks. Kendrys Morales’ absence from the hitting line-up was also a disadvantage for the club. Nevertheless, the skipper had a few good words to
share about his team.
“I'm proud of these guys,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. “They never gave an inch. They played hard the whole season.”
On the other hand, the skipper praised the Rangers as well. Angels were not able to fight back against the American League West leaders on Monday. Luck was not on their side as Alberto Callaspo fumbled in the top of the first to concede a critical error.
The club had no chance to go on top against their rivals.
“You have to give them credit,” Angels’ manager Mike Scioscia said. “They earned it. We gained momentum too late, as we look back on it. We had opportunities early because nobody was taking off with this thing.”
The Angels will be heading into the locker room, disappointed. As the Tampa Bay Rays went level with the Red Sox for the Wild-Card berth, as it became painfully clear that the team has to let go of their chase, this season. The Angels had an exciting season,
unfortunately they were unable to get a much needed victory and keep their play-off hopes alive.
