  1. Quite a list, but the Duck at number one? Cutemum2 said it best, remember this is Mike Sheahan writing, so take it for whatever it is worth--a whole lot of nothing.

    Where are a few others?

    Haydn Bunton

    d**k Reynolds

    John Coleman

    and many other choices???????

  2. carey at the top, bullcrap, ablett snr, was numb 1 easy, wheres roycey hart too.

williams out, a doz like him,

  3. Would hold more weight if he had of played or coached at the highest level successfully

  4. Is that in order?  He has Carey as best ever?  Above Ted Whitten, Bartlettt and Farmer?  Huh?

Carey was big.  Oh and he was big.

Hard to fault many of the others (Lockett had many of the same attributes as Carey though but at least he was a good kick) but where are the backmen ... these are almost all forwards with a couple of rovers.

And to finish my little rant ... where tf is Robert Harvey ... a slightly better player than that Carey guy.

EDIT: Nah I can't finish my rant at that ... Doull, Silvagni, Jesaulenko, Tuck, Buckenara, Buckley, Bews, Hocking, Liberatore, Long, 50 others that aren't coming to mind.... all better players than Carey ... the guy's on drugs and I want some.

  5. what an insult to players in this great game of ours, Greg Williams, Tony Lockett, Leigh Matthews, and Wayne Carey were some of the biggest thugs on the footy field .

  6. Really....Mike Sheahan. Whom does he think he is?

Another so called expert, who thinks they know what is best, who is best and how to coach a team. What a joke!!!

  7. F*** Wayne Carey that's a God d**n Insult

  8. What VFL side did Sheahan play for?

    His ramblings hold no relevance.

    QUANDRY  for PM

  9. i would not put carey i put gary ablett snr one thats the only chance i would make

  10. Excellent rant Quandry - I agree with you 100%

    What about Buckley?

Each to their own, I hate "Top 10" lists!

  11. Don't stress guys...Remember they are Mike Sheahans Top 10..lol

  12. Yeah .. .to be honest I agree with virtually every person's comments here.

I think the list could do with a great overhaul.

If John Greening had not been cut short at only 21, I'm sure he would figure here too... but as history has it, I think 10 is not enough to judge properly, if you don't mind, I might try about 20 or so:

These are not necessarily in order, but just a "MUST list" I think:

Leigh Matthews [had to be literally, one of the most lethal players ever to pull on boot - and has lived close to that as coach as well]

Haydn Bunton [6 state best & fairest medals]

    d**k Reynolds, [3 Brownlows]

Laurie Nash [the epitaph in football's hall of fame says: " One of the most gifted players ever, his career was half as long as many but it shone twice as brightly as most. Considered by many judges (himself included) the best player in the land...".  He kicked a record 18 goals in an interstate match.  His controversial test cricket story is even bigger!]

John Coleman [another career cut short]

Darrell Baldock [had the ball on a string, even when you thought he was out of the picture]

    Gary Ablett

Peter Hudson [150 goals in one season when they were much harder to come by]

    Bob Skilton

    Ted Whitten

    Polly Farmer

    John Nicholls

Jason Dunstall [one of the greatest team players I've seen]

Bob Pratt [also 150 goals when they were VERY tough to come by]

Bruce Doull [terrific defender and highly reliable]

    S. Silvagni [Both of them were great - father & son]

Alex Jesaulenko [how could you leave him out??]

    Michael Tuck

    Ian Stewart

    Kevin Bartlett

    Royce Hart

    Francis Bourke

    Ron Barassi

    Tony Lockett

    Gary Buckenara

Then you have all those players that kept Melbourne footy club on top of the ladder for 6 years inaro!!:

Big Bob Johnson [ruck & deadly pocket player]

    Laurie Mithen [centre]

    Brian Dixon [wing]

    Don Williams [half-back]

    Hassa Mann [half-forward]

    Barassi, etc.

I would put virtually any one of these players in any team with absolute confidence that the opposition would be left wondering:

    "WHAT HAPPENED??!!"
