Mike Stanton dominates as Florida Marlins defeat Boston Red Sox 15-7 – MLB Update
Mike Stanton put in a dominating batting performance as the Florida Marlins defeated the Boston Red Sox 15-7 in their Grapefruit League match at Roger Dean Stadium in Florida on Thursday, March 24.
The 21-year-old outfielder Stanton, making his spring debut launched two three-run home-runs and added seven RBIs to his record. Stanton, who made his comeback after the injury he was struck with last month, started his blistering journey in his second at-bat.
In the first inning the Red Sox starter Clay Buchholz struck-out Stanton on swinging strikes. Right-hand Stanton took his revenge contacting Buchholz two times for homers to left-field. His batting became valuable for the club in all aspects as both times
he homered and both times Omar Infante and Hanley Ramirez earned their runs. His home-runs also assisted the club to remove a 5-2 lead in third inning posted by the Red Sox.
The new comer in the Majors might be placed behind regular hitters Hanley Ramirez and Gaby Sanchez, according to manager Edwin Rodriguez. "He's got the power," Rodriguez said. "Not only that, you're going to see a better Hanley Ramirez, Gaby Sanchez."
Stanton not only impressed his team-mates but also the opponents. He nearly hit a 500-feet long grand slam, was all over Buchholz mind. Buchholz, who consumed 11 runs on 11 hits over four innings, allowed four costly home-runs. However, he managed to get
five strike-outs but not enough to washout his faults.
Stanton was pleased with his performance, as he knows the regular season is week away. "It's definitely cool to be able to do that your first game but that's what I work on," Stanton stated.
Marlins’ catcher John Buck and first baseman Logan Morrison tossed one run home-run each to accompany Stanton. Third baseman David Murphy also added a run to Florida’s 15 run account.
It seems as that the Red Sox hurlers forgot their swings because Michael Bowden followed Buchholz giving three runs on five hits over an inning.
Vazquez allowed homers to Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Jacoby Ellsbury in the second and third inning respectively. Jarrod made one run including four RBIs on three hits while Jacoby made two RBIs besides a homer. Victor Garate and closer Clay Hensley were
impressive in their one-inning spells, as both did not allow any run.
The day was not in favour of the pitchers as the Marlins’ starter Javier Vazquez permitted six runs including two homers on eight hits over four innings and struck-out four. Right-handed pitcher, making his fourth start of spring has given just three runs
on seven hits and struck-out four in his last two games.
