Mike Stanton’s four RBIs help Florida Marlins defeat Chicago Cubs 13-3 – MLB Recap
Florida Marlins’ out-fielder, Mike Stanton had a notable day with the bat as he went 3-for-5 with an average of .258 and had four RBIs with two homers in the Marlins’ 13-3 win against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Chicago on July 16.
The Marlins started their first inning superbly as they scored three runs to get an initial 3-0 lead. Hanley Ramirez doubled off deep right-field and Emilio Bonifacio posted a single run. Logan Morrison and Ramirez added the second and third run for the
Marlins when Gaby Sanchez singled towards right-field.
In the second inning, Kosuke Fukudome got out at second base and Starlin Castro struck-out swinging without giving some runs to their team. Similarly, in the third inning, the batters failed to add up run and the score-board was unmoved. Stanton hit a one-run
homer (402 feet) towards right-centre to take the Marlins’ lead 4-0, at the top of the fourth inning.
The Marlins’ batters continued to extend their lead as they exploded four runs in the fifth inning to give their team an effective 8-0 lead. Omar Infante contributed a single run when Ramirez doubled off deep left-field. Stanton struck a three-run homer
(426 feet) to right-centre while Ramirez and Gaby Sanchez both added two runs to complete a four-run campaign.
Sixth inning was full of runs as both teams scored their individual three runs to advance their score-board 11-3. At the top of the sixth, Morrison homered (397 feet) to centre-field while Javier Vazquez and Infante both completed their two runs collectively.
On the other side, Aramis Ramirez also hit a three-run homer (378 feet) while Fukudome and Castro scored two runs to give some momentum to the Cubs. Seventh and eighth inning were score-less as the pitchers sustained their line.
Vazquez pitched beautifully as he gave up just three runs on four hits in his seven innings pitched and threw the ball with an ERA of 5.14. He had 10 strike-outs on his 100 pitches.
At the top of the ninth inning, the Marlins raised their lead 13-3 when Ramirez and Gaby Sanchez both added two runs towards left-field. After having a comfortable victory, the Marlins went ahead 2-1 in a four-game series at Wrigley Field.
