Mike Stanton’s homer helps Florida Marlins defeat Philadelphia Phillies 7-6 – MLB Update
Florida Marlins’ out-fielder, Mike Stanton showed an extraordinary performance as he hit a solo homer in the end and went 1-for-5 to give the Marlins a 7-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies at Sun Life Stadium, Florida on July 6.
Jimmy Rollins singled towards centre-field but Michael Martinez was struck-out swinging and Ryan Howard also struck-out swinging at the top of the first inning. Similarly, the Marlins batters also failed to play scoring shots and got out as Gaby Sanchez
popped out towards the catcher and Omar Infante got out to second base at the bottom of the first inning.
The Phillies’ batters took two runs during the second inning to take an initial 2-0 lead. John Mayberry Jr. struck a solo homer (364 feet) towards left-field and Domonic Brown posted a single run. The Phillies raised their lead at the top of the third while
the Marlins also posted three runs at the bottom of the third inning.
Raul Ibanez doubled towards deep centre-field while Chase Utley and Howard added two runs for the Phillies. Anibal Sanchez scored the first run for the Marlins when Gaby Sanchez singled towards deep right-field. Emilio Bonifacio added the second run on the
throwing error of the Phillies’ right-fielder Brown.
Hanley Ramirez reached towards short-stop on an infield single and Gaby Sanchez posted one run to complete a three-run campaign. The Phillies were leading 4-3 after the third inning but they continued to extend their lead and raised it to 5-3 in the fourth
inning when Rollins hit a one-run homer (382 feet) to right-field. Fifth inning was score-less as the pitchers threw the ball in the right areas.
The Marlins’ starter, Anibal Sanchez permitted five runs on six hits including five earned runs in his four inning pitches. He had six strike-outs on his 86 pitches and permitted three walks to the Phillies’ batters.
Mayberry Jr. hit a one-run homer (367 feet) towards left-field at the top of the sixth while Logan Morrison hit a two-run homer (392 feet) towards left-centre and Ramirez added a single run to cut the Marlins’ deficit 6-5. The game was tied 6-6 in the seventh
inning when Infante posted a tie-run on the drive of Ramirez towards centre-field.
The Marlins went ahead 7-6 in the ninth inning when Stanton hit a decisive homer (394 feet) towards left-field. Despite the Marlins’ exciting win, the Phillies won the three-game series 2-1.
