Mike Straka asserts GSP wants $50 million to fight Silva – UFC News
In his last interview, welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre had asserted that he would fight middleweight champion Anderson Silva when the time will be right. However, tidings suggest otherwise. Recently, during an episode of The MMA Beat, Mike Straka
revealed that a source connected to GSP has informed him that the French-Canadian fighter wants a hefty paycheck to go head to head against the unbeaten Brazilian.
“I was told by somebody very close to Georges that Georges today makes close to $8 million a fight. So to fight Anderson Silva he's going to ask for $50 million,” asserted Straka.
“Because he said that Georges has 10 fights left in his career at $8 million a fight. But he believes that Anderson could actually hurt him, could physically hurt him and end his career. So to take that chance he wants $50 million and that's exactly the
number he's going to go to Dana White with.”
While President of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White is head over heels to make the super-fight happen, GSP has assured fans that it will not be so easy. According to GSP, he stands at a crucial stage of his career while Silva has achieved all
what he could. For GSP, a loss against Silva would be a major one which would lower his ratings. On the other hand, he believes if he beats Silva there will be no one worthwhile to compete with, since he would beat the best in the business.
Therefore, while Silva has an eye on GSP, the latter is yet not sure what he wants to do. If the news is correct then it seems like GSP has already decided the price he wants if he goes against Silva.
For now, there has not been an official announcement as to whether GSP is actually demanding the paycheck or it is just a rumour. As GSP puts it, he does not fight for money but for achievements and so does Silva. In this context, GSP asking for a hefty
paycheck is out of the question. If he did then he probably he is not sticking to his words.
