Mike Swick set to face David Mitchell at UFC military event

Former top welterweight (170lb) Mike “Quick” Swick will have the chance to get his career back on track when he faces David Mitchell at the Ultimate Fighting Championships’ “Fight for the Troops 2” event.
The event is set to take place on 22 January, 2011 in front of American military servicemen in Fort Hood, Texas.

Earlier, on Monday, 1 November, Swick (14-4) had hinted he’d be on the on the card with a not-so-cryptic Twitter message.

“So there is a UFC Fight for the Troops event in Texas on January 22nd huh? Wonder who will fight on that card? Hmmm...,” Swick posted on Twitter.

Several hours later, the news leaked that his opponent would likely be David Mitchell, who is 11-1 in his professional mixed martial arts career and 0-1 in the UFC.

The UFC seems to be giving Swick a chance to bounce back from two high-profile losses to top-ten opponents. He was once the fourth ranked welterweight fighter in the world, and entered UFC 105 last year as
the favourite in a title eliminator bout against Dan Hardy.
Hardy outstruck him and took the decision. Next he stepped up to fill in for his injured team-mate Josh Koscheck at UFC 109 to face Paulo Thiago. After a close first round, he was dropped by a punch and
then choked unconscious by Thiago. Not having fought since February, Swick is now 16th in the
USA Today/ SB Nation welterweight rankings.

The UFC appears to be giving Swick a chance to bounce back from his losses. Mitchell is about as low on the totem pole as it gets in the UFC. His sole fight was a loss to Anthony “TJ” Waldburger on the untelevised
preliminary card on a UFC free television event, where he dropped a unanimous 30-27 decision.

Swick was in the co-main event of  the first “Fight for the Troops” event in 2008, knocking out Jonathan Goulet in 33 seconds.
