Mike Tice no longer being considered for head slot by Oakland Raiders – NFL News Update
The Oakland Raiders have narrowed down their search for a head coach as they will no longer be interviewing the offensive coordinator of Chicago Bears, Mike Tice.
This was confirmed by the Bears team who will no longer be faced with the possibility of searching for a new offensive coordinator.
Tice recently received a promotion to the offensive coordinator post from the offensive line coach position. Tice has remained the head coach of Minnesota Vikings from 2001 to 2005. Tice joined the Bears in 2010. He has also worked
with the Jacksonville Jaguars for three years.
Tice had an interview scheduled with the Raiders’ general manager, Reggie McKenzie for Tuesday but the Raiders went ahead with their second round of interviews.
The move comes as a surprise as the Raiders themselves had requested for a permission from Bears to interview Tice.
“I was disappointed I wasn’t able to complete the interview process. But let me say this: I’m very excited about the opportunity and the new position I have with the Bears. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason. And
I think there are some great reasons to be in Chicago.” Tice said while speaking to ESPN
The Raiders now seem intent on hiring Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator, Dennis Allen who appears to be the strongest contender for the head coaching vacancy.
Allen has also coached the Atlanta Falcons and New Orleans Saints.
The Raiders have been without a head coach since McKenzie took over as the new general manager. McKenzie had coach Hue Jackson fired on the first day wanting to bring his own man in.
Jackson failed to lead the Raiders into the playoffs after the team ended landing up at 8-8.
Up till now McKenzie has not stated his intentions as to which coach he would finally end up hiring, though a likely possibility is that one of the Green Bay Packers’ coaches maybe hired.  The reason is that McKenzie had spent
18 years with the Packers team and intends to build the Raiders team on the Packers model.
McKenzie had his eye on the four Green Bay Packers’ coaches, Joe Philbin, Winston Moss, Dom Capers and Tom Clements. However, Philbin recently landed up with the Miami Dolphins as their head coach, thus leaving the ground open
for the rest of the contenders.
McKenzie has also interviewed the former interim coach of Miami Dolphins, Todd Bowles, offensive coordinator of Philadelphia Eagles, Marty Mornhinweg, and offensive coordinator of New Orleans, Pete Carmichael Jr for the head coach
slot.
