Mike Tindall restored by Rugby Football Union after appeal – Rugby News
Mike Tindall, who was dropped from England’s elite player squad after he was proved guilty of breaching the EPS Code of Conduct, has been restored to his original position and his fine has been reduced to £15,000 from £25,000, on November 28 by Rugby Football
Union. Tindall was captured by CCTV camera while talking to a woman in a local casino of Queensland during Rugby World Cup 2011, which was prohibited by the union.
Mike Tindall made an apology after the incident took place but his statement was turned down by the union which fined him with £25,000 along with exclusion from the elite player squad. Following the stern punishment, Tindall filed an appeal to the RFU with
the help of Rugby Players Associations and asked the authorities to review the penalty.
According to details, when the 33-year-old centre was reported to have fallen into controversy during the global show tour, he denied the matter but later on investigations discovered the truth. He issued an apology for misleading the management as they
rebuked him.
Mike Tindall is one of the senior players for England with 74 test caps under his belt. He started off his international career with English side back in 2000 against Ireland and has been playing regularly with the team. He has participated in all major
tournaments for England including three world cups.
Martyn Thomas, Acting Chief Executive Officer who heard the appeal, told the reporters that after the hearings committee has reached to the conclusion that Tindall did not mislead the RFU team management intentionally, so the penalty has been revised. He
added that, “We accept that there were mitigating factors which do not appear to have been taken into account to the extent that they might otherwise have been.”
Thomas further said that, “Taking all these factors into account we have decided to reduce the fine to £15,000 and reverse the decision to remove Mike from the England Elite Player Squad. It is however important to stress that we believe Mike's behaviour
fell way below that to be expected of somebody of his calibre and experience.”
Earlier, his breech of conduct was stated intolerable by RFU officials.
