Mike Tindall wants Gloucester stay – Rugby News Update
Mike Tindall, the 33-year-old Gloucester Centre and former England captain is out of contract this summer, but he is keen to keep playing for Gloucester.
However, it is uncertain what the future holds for the centre, and his stock has fallen remarkably over the last year.
"I would like to have another chance at Gloucester but that's down to the new coach that comes in," Tindall told the
BBC. "I definitely still want to play but it's about making the right decision.”
Gloucester is bringing in a new coach, as former coach Bryan Redpath is moving to new pastures. Rumour has it that Scarlets' head coach, Nigel Davies is the favourite to take up the position, and his future is tied to the new appointment.
He does have options to play abroad but potential deals have not materialised as yet. Tindall, a former World Cup winner has tough decisions to make over the next few weeks.
He said, "I'm still trying to sort it out. There's things there but I need to make the right decision. Because I've done eight and seven years at Bath and Gloucester respectively it makes it hard to go to one club for one year. That's why I was looking further
afield. But it's not just about me - it's about the family as well."
Tindall was one of the most consistent performers for England since making his debut against Ireland at Twickenham, on February 5, 2000. He was part of the team that won the World Cup in 2003. In his debut match, he scored a try.
His stock kept rising and in 2003 he was instrumental in leading England to the Six Nations triumph. He was unfortunate to miss the 2007 World Cup due to injury, but he did not cover himself in glory at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Tindall was caught on CCTV camera with a blonde late at night, and was subsequently fined by the Rugby Football Union. He was dropped from the team, and his last match for England was the game at Scotland at Auckland, on October 1, 2011.
It is expected that the Barbarian game against Ireland will be his swansong match.
