Mike Tomlin sees Pittsburgh Steelers’ offence boosted with Jonathan Dwyer as starting RB – NFL News
The Pittsburgh Steelers have officially named Jonathan Dwyer as the starter at running back because of the consistency in fitness and form, as confirmed by coach Mike Tomlin.
He will lead at the offensive position in the game against the Baltimore Ravens this Sunday (Dec. 02) and is likely to be retained for the rest of the season.
According to the coach:
"He's been consistently the most productive guy. I think we have a large enough body of work to be able to identify that at this point. Obviously, we've been working at less than ideal circumstances with the rotation and the shuffling of those guys due to
health and lack of production. But over the course of the last several weeks, it's obvious that he is healthy and he is the most productive of the group."
It will be second game that the Steelers play against the Ravens. They have already lost their home game to the opposition, and prone to face the same fate in the next meeting as they will be without some key players on the offensive line, particularly quarterback
Ben Roethlisberger. Historically, the Steelers have never won a game against the Ravens with Big Ben in the side.
Ben has injured his shoulder and also dislocated a rib, which will require him to miss at least three week’s football. Although the team is optimistic to have him back in a couple of weeks, he is least likely to be available for the Ravens’ game. He has
already missed two games, one against the Ravens and one against the Cleveland Browns, and it is unclear if he will be able to stage a comeback next week.
The Steelers, in the meantime, have continued to lose. Their loss against a far less competitive side of the Browns last week was particularly rueful for them. Before that they also lost to the Ravens, and have fewer chances to claim a win this weekend also.
It will be seen how Dwyer performs as starting running back but the coach nevertheless is optimistic that placement of him on the starting line will boost the team’s offence, overall.
