Mike Towey to make the most out of the racing experience at Ffos Las to bag the Lincwear Novices’ Hurdle on 23rd April
The Class 4 Lincwear Novices’ Hurdle will get staged at Ffos Las over two miles and four furlongs on Monday, 23rd April. The purse for the race is set at £2,599 and will get contested by nine four-year and older thoroughbreds.
Mike Towey, Ashkalani’s seven-year-old chestnut gelding out of mare, Cosy Lady, has scored a second position and then victory at Ffos Las during the previous season. He shot into the last season with the debut race at the same race course and this year round,
is racing his second attempt of the season there.
Mike Towey settled second behind the 6/4 favourite winner, Sertao, who was ridden by Richard Johnson in the Mellusion Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race on 1St March over two miles.
The concluding strides were really challenging for the winner as the runner up was closing in for the wire by a mere nose’s margin.
Finishing the race after the leading pair was Bathwick Brave on the field of eight.
The seven-year-old won the Lindley Catering Intermediate Open National Hunt Flat Race on 20th April at Hereford over two miles and a furlong. The 5/6 favourite winner of the race, Mike Towey, was coupled with Tom O’Brien.
Bollistick finished the closest to the winner and was soon followed by Sparkling Air.
Second outing of the season at Ffos Las and the final start of 2011 got credited as a victory on Mike Towey’s profile. He won the Barry Walters Catering Novices’ Hurdle on 31st May over two miles and six furlongs, with Denis O’Regan onboard.
He made Stonethrower, the runner up, suffer the loss by 2 ¾ lengths.
Mike Towey’s seasonal debut was in the 888Sport Novices’ Hurdle on 3rd April at Fontwell over two miles and six and a half furlong. He performed impressively at the beginning of the race but started to fade out gradually and thus had to be pulled
up.
The race was won by Medinas while Kuilsriver was the 5/4 favourite runner up.
Mike Towey has quite high chances of succeeding today but would need to look out for Lucky Thumb who had his last two races of the new season at Ffos Las but failed dreadfully at both the instances.
