Mike Trout and Mike Conger help snatch victory for Angels – Baseball update
In a very close finish, the Los Angeles Angels emerged victorious against Los Angeles Dodgers by 5-4 on Monday. The game was decided in the top of the ninth when the Angels’ Mike Trout hit a RBI single and Hank Conger hit a sacrifice fly to make the score
5-4 in favour of LA.
Angels’ Eric Santana threw five of the most impressive pitches of this spring. 52 out of his 69 pitches were for strikes and in his final start of the spring he went for two runs in three hits with five strike outs.
His counterpart, Ted Lilly, was quite way ward with his pitch. He threw 80 pitches in only four innings. He allowed five walks and two runs in four hits. Lilly is scheduled to play his first regular season game on Saturday against the current champions,
San Francisco Giants. He has been 1-1 in this spring season with 6.19 ERA.
Fernando Rodney was the most expensive pitcher for the Angels, giving two earned runs in the single inning he pitched. Jason Bulgar followed him with a perfect inning and had two strike outs. Hisanori Takahashi pitched a scoreless eighth inning while Meyer
and Ryan Brasier shared the all important scoreless ninth inning to secure victory for the Angels.
Mike MacDougal and Hong-Chih Kuo threw two perfect innings for the Dodgers while closer Jonathan Broxton couldn’t save the game as he gave away two decisive runs in the ninth innings. “Well we’ve got to make a play for him too,” manager Don Mattingly responded.
“He’s out of the inning really. So Broxton’s fine for me.”
Important Plays:
Torii Hunter scored the first point of the game with a run-scoring double to left field in the first inning.
Andre Ethier plates Rafael Furcal with a two-bagger to center field, tying the score.
Howie Kendrick drew his third consecutive walk to force home another run.
Angels were leading the game with 3-2 on the board after the end of the first half of the sixth innings before Juan Uribe hit an RBI double to tie the game.
Rod Barajas gave the Dodgers the lead with a run-scoring single in the sixth inning.
