Mike Trout comes second in American League Most Valuable Player Award’s voting – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels’ centre fielder Mike Trout had tough competition with Detroit Tigers’ star third baseman Miguel Cabrera for American League’s Most Valuable Player Award but with more experience and all round performance in the recent past Major League
Baseball season, the Tigers’ ace secured this year’s AL MVP honour.
Trout comes second in voting by 28 members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America.
"Wow. I don't believe it, I'm very excited. I'm like, I don't have any words to explain like how excited I'm right now. I never expected I'd end up winning because Mike Trout, he (had an) unbelievable season, Man, I've very surprised," Cabrera said.
Added Tigers manager Jim Leyland, “I think when you do something that hasn’t been done in 40-some years, with everything did down the stretch when we needed him the most. I was little nervous about it, but to be honest with you, I just felt like if this
guy doesn’t get the MVP, then there should be no such thing as an MVP.”
Though Cabrera was overjoyed to hear his selection as new AL MVP, but at the same time in another statement he too expressed his wishes for Los Angeles Angels’ young prodigy, who certainly outplayed many in this recent past competition.
Trout batted with a hitting average of .326 which itself is a great achievement for a rookie Major League professional.
He hit 30 homers along with 83 RBIs and .399 OBP and impressed many. It is a disappointment that Trout could not win this year’s MVP recognition but experts believe that his nomination along with champion Cabrera is itself a key thing to consider.
Cabrera, the winner, however played most of the season with consistent aggression and eventually achieved the Most Valuable Player Award.
He batted with .330 hitting average along with 44 homers, 139 RBIs and .393 OBP. He remained consistent throughout the season and also helped his team to achieve the post season spot.
It was Cabrera’s season long hard work that gave the Tigers enough confidence to remain consistent throughout the post season games which eventually landed them into the World Series.
