Mike Trout looking to hit strong in 2012
Mike Trout had a lot of expectations heading into the 2011 regular season. The Los Angeles Angels outfielder was the top prospect at the club before the season kicked off. He was arguably the best prospect after the season. While Mark Trumbo, Tyler Chatwood,
Hank Conger and Jordan Walden earned the rookie status and moved out of the prospects’ list, Trout is still there but he is looking to go on top in 2012. He briefly talked to the press on Thursday, November 2012.
The player told the media that he was taking a few weeks off before he was preparing for Spring Training in 2012.He has been involved with the Arizona Fall League this year and there is a feeling he is trying his best to cut the prospect tag out of his name.
The player had a mixed season in 2011. Starting off weak with the bat, the outfielder came back in his second stint with the Angels to impress the fans. When he earned his first call in July, he carried a batting average of .163 in the first 43 At – Bats
of the Major League campaign.
He was sent back to Double – A – Arkansas to work on his form. He did not waste time in hitting strong as he earned a call back in August. He hit .400 in the month, piling on four homers in 25 At – Bats. By the month of September, Trout was now on a batting
average of .220.
"I knew what to expect," Trout said. "I had no idea what to expect that first time. That first day is a whirlwind, and you get more relaxed over time. You're in the clubhouse with all of these [veterans]. You have to learn every day. I asked a lot of questions.
The second time, I knew what to do, I wasn't just lost."
Trout now plans to work harder in getting to the top league, like his other former minor league colleagues.
"I'm just getting more at-bats out here and I'm working on the little things," Trout said. "I'll take a couple of weeks off, then get at it again. Then, it's time for Spring Training."
With Trout looking strong in the preseason, the Angels look better for the upcoming year.
