Mike Tyson: Julio Cesar Chavez Junior can nail Sergio Martinez – A wild assumption – Boxing Special
For some reason, Mike Tyson, former undisputed world heavyweight champion, believes Julio Cesar Chavez Junior, the current WBC middleweight champion, has the ability, talent, speed, agility and all the factors requisite to nail the undisputed world number
one middleweight Sergio Gabriel Martinez.
The statement was on-aired recently and although is quite odd and somewhat not factual still cannot be taken lightly. Mike’s prediction is quite important and at least Sergio should take it into wise consideration and must know as to why the former legend
thinks like that.
Apart from the friendly connection with Julio’s father Chavez Senior, quite frankly, there does not appear to be any other understandable explanation as to why Tyson would place his vote in favour of Julio junior – well obviously because he is the son of
his own idol and good friend.
Otherwise, Julio simply does not have the skills much needed in order to conquer the hardcore Argentinean Sergio. Martinez, who has never before disrespected his opponent so badly, is always trying his level best to degrade Julio Junior’s reputation.
Martinez even called Julio and his camp a chicken. Well there is definitely a reason behind it and its Sergio’s confidence in his skills and the fact that he knows Cesar junior has up till now not possessed the ability to nail a pugilist like him.
Julio junior needs to take on some more men, high-profile, ace, top-notch divisional belligerents before colliding with the number one just like Gabriel did. Furthermore, there are some technical factors that pinpoint the fact that Julio will get in sheer
trouble during the bout.
Tyson, on the other hand, does not think like that. During the media interaction, Mike stated, “Julio Cesar Chavez was my favourite boxer and his son, Chavez Jr., will be the next Mexican idol. His son learns fight by fight. He will become an idol. He will
have a tough test against Sergio Martinez who is very skilful, but Chavez is stronger and has everything to win on September 15th.”
As far as the learning part is concerned, agreed but the later part that Chavez has everything to win, it would be unfair to second the hypothesis blindly. Chavez does possess the skill, to some extent, and is obviously stronger due to large body mass and
height but still this is the same factor that will hinder him in performing well.
Gabriel is short heighted with a longer reach advantage. Chavez, on the other hand, has more height but lesser reach. The huge height and body mass will make him sluggish in the later rounds.
Martinez will take advantage of it who by using his reach will strike powerful jabs easily from a safe distance. Furthermore, Sergio is well known all around the world unanimously as the speediest brawler with the ability to throw powerful jabs at a very
fast rate.
Most probably Tyson is not aware of this fact otherwise he would have not aired such comments. The Argentinean proud will batter Julio junior with his speedy punches and will above all use his agility to evade Julio junior’s strikes.
In a nut shell, Julio is a talented lad but he has not reached the spot where he can easily nail someone like Sergio Martinez. Moreover, Julio has started to collide with real opposition since last year in which he has collected wins over names like Marco
Antonio Rubio, Andy Lee and others.
Martinez, on the other hand, has wiped out the whole division. Therefore, Julio can give a tough time to Sergio but a win over Maravilla is somewhat an unrealisable dream.
